Default Police On Patrol With New Suzuki Motorbikes

Victoria Police will start patrolling forests this Queens Birthday weekend with new trail bikes on loan from Suzuki.

Suzuki will provide Victoria Police with six DR-Z400E motorcycles over three years, as part of an initiative to improve safety for recreational riders around popular riding spots in north east Victoria.

Deputy Commissioner Ken Lay praised Suzuki for its initiative and generosity and said the aims of the initiative would be three-fold.

"We're confident a high visibility presence in the forests will help to curb risk-taking behaviour, we will be educating riders about safe riding practices, as well as detecting offences such as riding unlicensed or off the designated tracks," Deputy Commissioner Ken Lay said.

"We've found that motorcycle riders are more receptive to listening and talking to fellow riders so police will be travelling to campsites on their trail bikes to hand out leaflets as part of the education component too."

Suzuki Australia Managing Director Tak Hayasaki said Suzuki was pleased to be contributing to safer riding in this capacity.

"Suzuki Motorcycles is delighted to be supporting the Victoria Police Off-Road Motorcycle Project with the supply of these new DR-Z400E motorcycles.

"Off road riding is a vital and growing part of our market so it's important that we take this opportunity to work cooperatively with police in the education of our dirt bike customers.

"The DR-Z400E enduro is the ideal model for this purpose as they offer fantastic off-road versatility and durability in all circumstances, and will allow the trained police officers to ride comfortably all day," he said

I worry when Andrew and the boys ride out here though, as there are so many turkeys out there, on bikes (a lot are just pit-pro wannabe riders and unlicensed/unregistered) and 4wd's. It doesn't matter if you always do the right thing, it's the loose cannons you have to watch out for.

Instead of giving the illegal immigrants all our tax dollars, how about the guffnuts spend it on some bikes to get our bush back under control
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now

Not sure about the dirt bikes but the Boys in Blue were definitely monitoring the Upper Yarra Valley over the weekend. Sore several police cars / 4WD vehicles near Reefton Spur etc. Nice to know they care about us.
