Default RD400 Cafe Racer

I've always had an interest in older bikes and especially cafe racers so l decided to have a go at building one myself. Alot of people tend to base them on old CB's, SR's, but l wanted something a little different. Surfing ebay l found a 76 Yamaha RD400, engine running but smoky and only $500.

Below is a pic of the bike, on the left is when l bought it and on the right is a mock up of roughly what l am hoping to create. The bike is currently completely stripped down awaiting a respray and the engine has been fully rebuilt. I intend on having it finished in the next few weeks and will add progress photos the closer l get to the end.

RD400 before and mockup

Great to see a fellow enthusiast here and also good luck with the RD - Looks like it will eventually be something definetely different. Be keen to see how you go with it
