With the temperatures rising in Melbourne, I was wondering what people do when it's just too hot, but more importantly when do you think it is too hot. I know that clothing gear etc plays a big part, but I am assuming that you know whats best to wear in all conditions.

I voted "It's never too hot" We are already having 35°C - 40°C days here, and 40°C+ days in this part of the world is just a part of summer. And if your bike is the only transport you have. Well you just have to deal with it. Though having said that when we've had nothing but 40°C+ days for 2 weeks straight, thats when you stop & actually think about going anywhere.

It's not the riding, but the stopping that's a problem on hot days. I have no probs in any weather/temp if I'm actually moving. But stop start city commuting gets tiresome at 30+ I was amazed at how much difference a helmet with decent ventilation makes in hot weather riding. KBC's and Nitro's I've used in the past we're OK the time, but I'm buying Shoei from now on... Awesome ventilation!

In all honesty, after doing that ride back in February earlier this year with a bunch of Netriders* (who are prolly now mostly B&S-ers), I don't reckon any heat would keep me off the road. Considering that I don't have air-con in the house, it's better to feel the cool sensation from the wind blowing on sweat through one's jacket! Stopping is not nice though. I believe it would be wise to use one of those backpacks with water and straws. My doc told me that I had dehydration after the pink ribbon ride several weeks ago, just because I didn't keep my fluids up that day (and I thought vodka would have done the trick) *The ride can also be identified as the one where we all pulled over the side of the road at Mirboo North and near died of exhaustion!

Yeah Brionnach, do I remember that ride ![]() If I hadn't posted the ride, I wouldn't have gone! I don't cope well in the heat, and that day I think it ended up at 40+ degrees ![]() While you are moving it isn't too bad, but as soon as you slow to town limits and stop, it gets unbearably hot very quickly. Ideally I wouldn't head out if it's going to be more than 35 degrees. I now have a hydration pack to wear. I have used it once already and I loved it, only the water tends to get a bit warm Next time I think I will put ice cubes in as well Agree with Jim, I have a Shoei X11 with 5 vents, and it does make a HUGE difference...definitely worth the $$$

I've become used to the lower temps in Tas. When I lived on the Putty Rd I didn't bother riding much above 32c. I'd find that uncomfortable now. I could go all day at less than 10c now, just need decent undies.

![]() Tis easier to rug up than keep cool I think. One thing tassie teaches you is to "layer" the clothes. Might have to check out those u-beaut shirt things that "wick" the sweat out into the air to keep you cooler, or wire up a peltier cooler into me draggins
